About Us

From 2010 to 2011 the bloggers on this site were Clark and Kim. The site has new editors and will begin to be updated more frequently with new travel tips and stories.

You can get to know Clark and Kim below. Their posts are amazing, you should check them out!

Clark and Kim are out to see the world! Well, some of it anyway.

To Uncertainty & Beyond is filled with travel stories, tips, mishaps, photography, city guides, and gear reviews to help plan your big trip.

We had good jobs, a nice apartment, and loads of…stuff.  But who needs any of that?  We quit the jobs, ditched the apartment, and sold the stuff.  Two 70L backpacks were all we needed.

We traveled Europe, Northern Africa, the Middle East, and Asia from June 2010 to January 2011, or about 200 days. We chose to go the independent travel route.  No big bus tours for us.  Also, we had zero commitments.  RTW tickets (aka Star Alliance) or consolidators (aka Airtreks) may save you money, but only if you commit to an itinerary before even leaving home. We actually found that we saved money by booking budget flights and going overland as much as possible. We also really enjoyed the flexibility of having no set itinerary.

Everyone talks about taking time to travel, but few people (especially Americans) actually do it.  Life is all about taking risks and having adventures.  You only live once, so why not?

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

– Mark Twain

It’s a little scary to abandon the routine, but we hope our site will help you plan your own trip to uncertainty. We’re done with the big chunk of our trip, but are by no means finished traveling. Keep checking in to see what we’re up to next!

Go for it! You are exactly right – the things you regret the most in life are the ones you didn’t accomplish! What you will gain knowledge-wise will far out weigh what you may or may not lose in quest for the “perfect” career. You will both enrich your lives – ENJOY THIS TIME! My thoughts and prayers will be with you both and I will look forward to your future posts!

I, for one, think this is great! I always wanted to move to LA, but never did. It was not “practical”. So now I am 10 minutes from where I grew up, and will most likely be til the day I die. Not horrible, but not what I envisioned either. If you can do this (and it sounds like you worked it out so that you can), you should. I shall enjoy reading of your adventures!

Kimberly/Clark, Here’s feedback from a former Boeing teammate working offsite in Hungary. Boeing has put him up in a beautifut hunting lodge with skads of room. Great guy. Let him know if interested. Gave him your website. His comments follow:
Do you happen to know when they will be coming over? We are going to be out of the country from May 21st through June 12th and we do have some visitors coming in town. As well, if they would like to meet in May sometime we could maybe arrange a time to meet with them and give them some travel tips for EU to save money and make the best of their time. Like I said they are more than welcome to come visit us. Budapest, Vienna and Bratislava are only an hour and a half away. Prague is only 3 hours away so there some easy ways to travel. You can get an International Driver’s permit from AAA for very little and if you rent a car here you can see so much so easily. At any rate, our phone number at our house here is a stateside number so it is not long distance. The number is 636 465 3574, I am usually home by 5 PM which is about 10 AM your time, so if you would like to call or them that would be great. We will be gone this Thursday through the weekend as we are heading towards Croatia, which is absolutely my favorite place here so far.

    Hello Clark!
I just saw your comment on a Fiji post of mine. You commented in April……….. sorry I’m so late getting back to you!
Fiji is way way way cheaper than Sydney that is for sure! Fiji for me was a $400 round trip flight from Fiji and I did a Fiji Experience tour around the main Island that cost me about $350 that included a few meals, the full bus tour and all of the excursions and things that we did. We did have to pay for our own accommodation each night however it was very cheap because two Fijian dollars equals roughly one Canadian so everything was half off for me! I would may $25-30 Fijian a night so that was really only $15 and the places we would stay at were amazing! If you want to travel to the other islands aside from the main Island Viti Levu it costs a bit more because most other islands and resorts are all inclusive but everything is still very reasonable.
I do recommend going to Sydney as well though! Quite possibly one of my favorite cities! A great hostel to stay at there is the YHA in the Rocks and I have also heard good things about the Wake Up hostel. If you are looking for a hotel I recommend the Travel Lodge in Hyde Park. You can follow me on twitter @cailinoneil and in the next couple days a post I wrote for http://www.diwyy.com will be going online that I will be tweeting about it and it is specifically about 24hours in Sydney and has tons of information.
Thanks for liking my blog, feel free to ask any more questions! Safe travels!

Bon Voyage, Clark & Kim – you are gonna have an awesome time! Also, it will sometimes suck. But you’re right, you will never regret it! I love how you’ve decided to just “wing it”, without any formal itinerary – that’s the what we’re gonna do next time.

    Hi Kim,

So happy my little blog could help you on your big adventure. Two months in and you are probably at a pro at this whole travel thing. I have had to return after 6 months to pick up some more funding a.k.a work a little, however, I know there are still many of us out there still traveling and few of my bumps in the road and revelations could always be of some help. Best of luck to you and your husband. I look forward to following you both through this journey. Thanks for the addition on to the blog roll.

    Safe travels.

This is a wonderful blog! It was a very good read.

I was wondering if you would be interested in guest blogging on my blog. It is a collection of my travels and the travels of my guests. If you scan the site you can see that now almost 100% of the posts are from guests. Lately I’ve been finding many people interested in guest posting.

Included in your post will be a link to your website using whatever anchor text or key words you wish and a description of your site (if you choose to include one.)

My blog (onetravel.wordpress.com) receives about 1000 visitors a day and that number is steadily growing.

So if you are interested in being a guest, please let me know.

    Send me an Email:

I’m glad you found me on Twitter so I could discover your blog. Your posts are interesting and informative – I especially like the one about Barcelona. Your photos are beautiful too! My husband and I are just starting to plan our round the world trip (we will probably go for one year), so I look forward to learning from your experiences. I have one itinerary suggestion… If you are planning to go to southern Africa, you might enjoy South Africa. We went a few years ago and loved it (there’s a post about our trip on my blog). Happy travels and I’ll keep my fingers crossed that the Bad Apple behaves!

I think everything posted made a lot of sense. But, what about this?
what if you were to create a killer post title? I ain’t suggesting your content isn’t solid, but suppose
you added something to possibly get people’s attention? I mean About Us
To Uncertainty & Beyond! is a little boring. You could glance at Yahoo’s front page and
watch how they create post titles to grab people to open the links.
You might add a video or a related pic or two to get readers excited
about what you’ve written. Just my opinion, it could bring
your posts a little bit more interesting.

Today, I went to the beach with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter
and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell
to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her
ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is
completely off topic but I had to tell someone!
